Note taking applications

Before the vibe coding era, I used to design note-taking applications. I never quite knew why, but I think it was because I needed specific solutions for specific problems. There were many options available, but detailed needs meant all you could really do was leave feedback and wait. That was limiting.

Once I had the essentials to build my own things, I started creating versions of note-taking experiences one after another. I would build something, use it for a few weeks, discover a new need, and then start over. That cycle kept going.

  • A simple writing application with insights, and a not-so-private diary experience in the browser using local storage
  • A locally hosted open-source journal with insights, and a note-taking application with basic Markdown support
  • A quick Markdown opener and editor in the browser for README and similar use cases, and a code stashing experience for temporarily saving snippets
  • And finally, a knowledge base application.
